7” Vinyl Record Wedding Invitation
This recent wedding invitation design is something totally different to my usual work. It’s also probably the most personal and bespoke design I’ve ever created but the fact that I’ve been best friends with the bride-to-be since we were both 11years old does help!
Kara and Gary got engaged inNovember and are getting married this October at the beautiful Palm House in Sefton Park, Liverpool. They’ve both been super organised planning the wedding and I started designing these invites back in March – we spent loads of time discussing ideas over much tea and cake and a few cooked breakfasts (thanks to Gary for those!). I knew they wouldn’t want my usual style of wedding invitation – no vintage florals, rustic twine or raffia for Kara and Gary! They are both into music in a big way and the wedding reception is being held at the Hard Day’s Night Hotel, which is for those who don’t know, a Beatles themed hotel, in Liverpool of course. Gary wanted to incorporate a 7” vinyl record into the invitation design – a real one, not just a piece of black card cut in a circle!
So following my brief of using the vinyl and a yellow and navy blue colour scheme, I created a quirky illustration that features the bride and groom-to-be, the wedding venue and some personal Liverpool touches such as the little Lambanana and the proud Liver Bird sat on top of the Palm House. This was to form the front of the record sleeve, with the wedding details and information on the back of the sleeve and on the record stickers. The illustration was also used on a post card design for the evening invitations and could basically be used on any format of invitation.
As I was saying, this is totally different from my usual style but I really enjoyed putting my ‘graphic design’ head on and creating something so personal and so unique. I know Kara and Gary loved the finished product and listening to the feedback from the guests, it sounds like they all loved them too. This sort of invitation really builds the excitement of the wedding guests and makes them truly look forward to the big day. I’ve now got the job of creating the ‘on the day’ stationery which will keep me busy, oh and not to mention the planning of Kara’s hen do!
I will be offering this bespoke design service on my website shortly, in record format or just a plain and simple post card design. So if you fancy sending out wedding invitations to your guests featuring a completely original and personal illustration – please get in touch!
